Mike Payne

Vislink Law Enforcement and Public Safety

Mike was appointed Managing Director of Vislink plc’s Law Enforcement and Public Safety business unit in late 2008. Prior to his appointment as MD, Mike held the position of Vislink Group CTO. As CTO he was responsible for the coordination of Vislink’s overall product and technology strategy. During his CTO tenure, he played a key role in helping to position the group to take advantage and begin to drive efficiency via its core technology developments. These core developments included video encoding platforms and the consolidation of the group’s new and existing modulation techniques.

Prior to Mike’s two year assignment as Group CTO, he had had over 20 additional years of experience in the microwave communications industry. Positions held during his tenure at MRC included VP of Marketing & Business Development, VP of Operations, VP/Director of Engineering and Product Line Manager.

In his marketing and business development roles Mike and his team were responsible for MRC’s product roadmap which included launching MRC’s developing IP communications strategy, which will help provide the base for next generation News Gathering and Law Enforcement products for the group.

Prior to his marketing role, Mike was responsible for MRC’s Operations where his five year tenure began with Vislink’s acquisition of MRC. His accomplishments included the restructuring of MRC’s manufacturing and supply chain management capabilities. Prior to his operations assignment he held the position of Director of Engineering where Mike had responsibility for all aspects of Product Development at MRC. During his directorship his team introduced the CodeRunner family of Digital transmitters and receivers, TwinStream and DAR Plus long haul products.

Mike earned his BSET and a BSEE from Wentworth Institute of Technology and an MBA from Suffolk University both located in Boston Massachusetts. He holds a US Patent for: Methods and Apparatus for Transmitting Analogue and Digital Information Signals. A patent which represents and protected the critical technology used in Microwave Radio Communication’s long-haul product portfolio, leading to over 80% of market share for the US DTV transition.
